The Climate Resilient Livestock Development Project (CRLD), funded by a $120 million loan from Asian Development Bank (ADB), is playing a crucial role in strengthening the resilience of Uzbekistan’s livestock sector. With a focus on key regions such as Samarkand, Qashqadaryo, Navoi, and Karakalpakstan, the project is designed to enhance farm productivity and environmental sustainability in the face of growing climate risks.
Central to the CRLD approach is the adoption of regenerative pasture management and climate-smart husbandry practices. By introducing innovative solutions like silvopasture systems and climate-resilient crop cultivation, the project is helping farmers adapt to climate variability while improving soil health and biodiversity. To ensure these practices are widely implemented, the project is also delivering specialized training to local veterinarians and livestock managers, building their capacity to manage livestock sustainably.
In parallel, CRLD is working to improve financial access for small businesses and farmers. By developing tailored financial models and providing advisory services, the project empowers these stakeholders to make climate-smart investments, ensuring long-term growth and resilience for the livestock sector.
Beyond the technical and financial components, CRLD integrates vital environmental and social safeguards. The project ensures that climate change mitigation and gender equality are prioritized through detailed Environmental Management Plans (EMP) and Gender Action Plans (GAP). These strategies are designed to ensure equitable access to resources, helping local communities thrive while protecting the environment for future generations.
